Meet the Performers
Obsessed with music from an early age, singer/songwriter Jackie Venson immersed herself in its study, attending the Berklee College of Music to practice classical piano. However, it wasn’t until she switched to the electric guitar, that her long-simmering passion for emotive live performance was realized. Abandoning the straight-laced world of classical for the raw power of blues and soul, Venson has since been tirelessly honing her skills into an intoxicating amalgam of Blues, Rock, R&B and Soul with deeply heartfelt lyrics. Her new album 'Vintage Machine' is set to release in fall 2020, it showcases her passion for integrating new musical technology, authentic sounds, and intricate arrangements.
A 9-piece outfit formed sixteen years ago by members of Grammy Award-winning Latin revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma, Brownout has evolved into a musical force all its own.
Ever-prolific funk masters, Brownout released their new album of original works 'Berlin Sessions' with producer Steve Berlin (Los Lobos) on March 6, 2020.
For better or worse, I tried to make a record about how absurd it has felt to be alive over the past few years, that sounds like how its feels to build a life while the world you were promised changes," says Walker Lukens, describing the broad premise behind his new album 'ADULT,' out now via Modern Outsider Records. "I also wanted to make a record that made people dance...so, here ya go."
Now on his third full-length release, the Austin, TX-based songwriter has become well known for embracing contradiction, "blending genres and techniques" (Billboard) into a sound that's hard to pin down. NPR's All Songs Considered described him as a "rhythmic sound effect master" who creates "curious, textured music," while World Cafe called it "wonderfully inventive."
Equally steeped in Texas/Louisiana blues, old-school country and punk-rock, Dayton is the music world’s best-kept secret, hiding in plain sight as a guitarist for Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Ryan Bingham and L.A. punk pioneers X, as well as touring alongside Social Distortion, the Supersuckers and John Doe.
After releasing 11 studio albums and an EP as a solo artist, Dayton’s new album, Mixtape Volume 1, is a series of 10 cover songs he thoroughly makes his own, reinterpreting and revisiting them in a brand-new way.
A musical force equipped with the soulful vocals of Janis and the guitar slinging skills of Stevie Ray, Carolyn Wonderland reaches into the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a poet. She hits the stage with unmatched presence, a true legend in her time.
Along with the guitar and the multitude of other instruments she learned to play – trumpet, accordion, piano, mandolin, lap steel – Wonderland even throws in a whistling solo on occasion.
On their eagerly awaited debut album Samsara, the visionary Austin, TX combo Los Coast delivers a fresh blast of punchy psychedelic-pop-soul that effortlessly incorporates a wide range of genres. The band's seamlessly soulful songcraft incorporates the band's distinctive grooves along with the inventive compositions and commanding vocals of principal members Trey Privott (lead vocals, guitar) and John Courtney (guitar, keyboards, vocals).
Ida Red is the new project led by guitarist Sophia Johnson (The Toy Hearts) and steel guitarist Rose Sinclair (Wayne Hancock). The duo initially began working together in 2018 on a project to honor one of their mutual heroes, Texas songwriter Cindy Walker, for the Ameripolitan Music Awards show in Memphis, TN. Johnson and Sinclair share a passion for western swing and decided to form a twin guitar team, accompanied by upright bass and drums, to continue to celebrate the music that they love. Realizing that they had both moved to Austin specifically to hone their Texas swing chops, they set about putting together a live set that draws heavily on the music of Bob Wills and his contemporaries. You can expect to hear tight arrangements of western swing and two-step classics, featuring hot twin guitar lines, and sultry waltzes guaranteed to fill up the dance floor. Both accomplished musicians enjoy tipping their hats to the players that have inspired their music, while bringing a vibrant and fresh energy to their interpretations. Ida Red will be heading into the studio in 2020. Meanwhile you can catch them performing shows in and around Austin, TX.
